Faculty of Mathematics and Physics, Charles University, Prague
web: www.mff.cuni.cz Overview of departments

Faculty of Pedagogy, Charles University, Prague
web: www.pedf.cuni.cz Work-based-learning (WBL) Method
The Faculty of Pedagogy educates teachers for all types and grades of schools and specialists in pedagogy, educational psychology or didactics. It provides both future and current teachers with specialised professional education emphasising scientific and artistic aspects of all courses offered, including PhD programs. A broad overview of philosophy, social studies and education in pedagogical, psychological and biological disciplines is an inseparable part of the studies and develops the skills needed by students in order to be a successful teacher.
Courses:
The backbone of the bachelor study program is based on mastering the theoretical
basics of two chosen disciplines, e.g. geography and mathematics and other
combinations. For each selected discipline a specific syllabus is prepared
containing compulsory and elective courses which will enable students to
identify the theoretical background of each discipline and how it will reflect
their future teaching career. The students are graded through a credit system.
The number of credits for pedagogical and psychological disciplines was lowered
as these courses are not intended for obtaining a teaching qualification. The
motivation practice course was retained because it aids the students to decide
whether to continue with Masters courses which are a prerequisite for obtaining
the teaching qualification. The graduates of the bachelor degree are not
qualified teachers.
The graduates of the Masters degree will gain deep insight and develop skills in the theoretical background of both chosen disciplines. At the same time the pedagogical and psychological skills and qualification will be developed to interconnect all theoretical and practical aspects of the course.
The backbone of the Masters degree is formed by pedagogical and psychological courses and also by studying the theoretical background of both chosen disciplines. The system of mandatory and elective courses is developed to enable a natural fusion of pedagogical and psychological disciplines on one side, with the teaching practice on the other side. The graduates of the Masters program become fully qualified primary or secondary school teachers.
Faculty of Pedagogy as a scientific institution
The staff of the Faculty of pedagogy were awarded by over a hundred national and
international grants. The Faculty has extensive publishing activities. Besides
various collections, yearbooks, textbooks and occasional publications the
Faculty publishes magazines such as Alma Mater, Music education, Pedagogy,
