Methodology of Work Based Learning (WBL)
Work Based Learning (WBL – a teaching method which can be defined as teaching at, through and for work) is an alternative model for creation of study programs for third level education.

CHARACTERISTICS AND DIFFERENCES:
- The WBL program is designed according to the needs of a specific role and the needs of the student, and is not fully bound to the university curriculum.
- The partnership between the student, the university and the employer (or other organisation) is defined and bound by a tripartite contract.
PURPOSE OF THE WBL METHODOLOGY
The study system based on WBL represents an extension and addition to existing European third level education models. The system is focused on third level education and supports further studies during employment, leading to the enhancement of knowledge, expertise and competencies of the student through individual learning in the given area. The aim is to develop a methodology based on practical learning, which will support life-long learning and create learning opportunities directly with the employment organization.
The target groups of the WBL program are working adults, working mature students and socially disadvantaged individuals who have limited access to third level education due to current conditions in European third level education. The WBL model will enable the participants to obtain third level qualifications through:
- Creation of specifically defined systems for recognition of qualifications obtained outside traditional third level institutions.
- Development of innovative methodologies of teaching based on WBL with the integration of methods of distance learning, full-time learning or individual learning supported by a tutor.
AIM OF THE WBL PROGRAM
- Improvement of the competencies of the participant, increased knowledge base and practical experience
- Profit gain for the supporting company (employer), organization or institution
- Study achievements and results to be defined within one integrated European system in order to accumulate or transfer obtained credits
- The educational institution evaluates the results of the agreed study program through trans-disciplinary standards and presents formal awards which recognise the obtained education and qualification.
